A Shinto Shrine in Tokyo<\/h2>\n
\n Nishikubo Hachiman Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Toranomon,
\n Tokyo. Since ancient times, it has been a sacred place
\n where people offer their prayers. Through seasonal
\n festivals and rituals, the shrine has preserved and
\n passed down the traditions and culture of the local community.\n <\/p>\n

The Heart of Shinto<\/h2>\n
\n Shinto is the traditional faith of the Japanese people,
\n who have long felt the presence of kami in nature and
\n everyday life. It values respect for kami, gratitude
\n for life\u2019s blessings, and sincerity in thought and action.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Japanese word kami is often translated as \u201cdeities.\u201d
\n Kami are diverse: they include sacred powers associated
\n with nature, people revered for their lifetime achievements,
\n and, of course, ancestors. Shinto shrines are sacred places
\n of prayer where various kami are enshrined and honoured.\n <\/p>\n

Our Kami and History<\/h2>\n
\n Nishikubo Hachiman Shrine enshrines Emperor Ojin,
\n Empress Jingu and Emperor Chuai, and continues the
\n tradition of Hachiman worship.\n <\/p>\n
\n According to shrine tradition, it was founded by
\n Minamoto no Yorinobu during the Kanko era (1004\u20131012),
\n with kami ceremonially invited from Iwashimizu Hachimangu.
\n Supported by the local community through generations
\n of change and rebuilding, the shrine remains a place
\n of prayer in the heart of Tokyo.\n <\/p>\n
